AI agents are supposed to make life easier, but until now, getting them to work with real world tools was a pain. If you wanted an agent to interact with your database, or IDE, you had to write custom API integrations for every single one. The thought of scaling this across multiple tools/ resources seemed impossible.
But what if you could just grab an AI agent, plug it into whatever service you need, and get to work, without any extra coding or complex setup?
In this talk, we’ll cover how AI agents are becoming more modular with standards like the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Instead of being stuck with whatever knowledge they were trained on, agents can now dynamically connect to APIs, dev tools, and cloud services on the fly. I’ll show a live example of how this changes the game for developers, making AI more flexible, powerful, and actually useful.
If you’re ready to make AI agents work for you, and not the other way around, come see how the next generation is built to simply plug in and play.
Developer Advocate - Block
APIs are more than just tools; they are the foundation for building scalable and sustainable digital products. This talk explores how circular design principles can improve the way APIs are developed and used, enhancing the developer experience and delivering long-term value.
Through real-world examples, we’ll explore how to leverage platforms designed to enable a circular API economy that emphasizes reusability, modularity, and interoperability to drive innovation, reduce technical waste, and foster collaboration. If you’re looking to build products that not only scale but also evolve gracefully and efficiently, this talk is for you. In API we trust!

Multi-modal generative AI refers to artificial intelligence systems that can process and generate multiple types of data—such as text, images, audio, and video—by integrating information across different modalities. These models leverage advanced architectures, including transformer-based networks and diffusion models, to enhance creativity, reasoning, and automation across various domains.
Key applications of multi-modal generative AI span industries such as healthcare, where it aids in medical imaging analysis and automated diagnostics; finance, where it enhances fraud detection and risk assessment; and entertainment, where it generates interactive content and virtual experiences. Additionally, in education, it enables personalized learning through AI tutors, while in autonomous systems, it improves human-AI collaboration by processing diverse sensory inputs. As the technology advances, multi-modal generative AI is set to redefine problem-solving by enabling more intuitive and human-like AI interactions across multiple fields.
Solutions Consultant - Snowflake
There is a growing industry trend to fine tune large language models with domain specific proprietary data and use the fine tuned models in the GenAI based workflows in order to obtain a boost in the workflow-specific context accuracy.
There is an often overlooked risk associated with finetuning—namely, that fine-tuning can throw off model alignment and introduce security and safety risks that were not previously present. This phenomenon is broadly applicable and can even occur with completely benign datasets, making fine-tuned AI applications generally easier to jailbreak and more likely to produce harmful or sensitive results.
In this session we look at what is alignment and how fine tuning impacts alignment . We explore other security risks associate with finetuning and what are the guardrails to be put in place.
Also some of the key considerations that are required before a decision to adopt fine-tuning are discussed.
Principal Engineer - Intuit
Chatbots leveraging large language models (LLMs) are increasingly popular for their conversational and reasoning abilities. However, the lack of standardized frameworks hampers consistent development and integration. The Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture, combining a knowledge base (via a vector store) with generative models, is emerging as the standard to address issues like hallucinations and outdated responses. This talk showcases the implementation of an ecosystem orchestration framework using microservices, featuring composable building blocks for generative AI, including LLMs, data stores, and prompt engines. It provides architectural blueprints for the RAG stack, end-to-end workflows, and a four-step assessment for evaluating performance, features, trustworthiness, and enterprise readiness. The flexible design allows easy modification of components, accelerating GenAI adoption and delivering business value.

Show me a data pipeline built before the data streaming era and I can likely show you a team of frustrated operators and engineers whose weeks consist of rerunning ETL (or ELT) jobs. And the C-suite isn’t interested in musings about “inconsistencies” in these redundant raw data sets. They only know the reports are late…again…this week.
Alas, there’s a better way forward. A “stream-first” approach, achieved by applying data stream governance to create high quality raw data sets. A paradigm of “Shift Left” - where we exchange these brittle, expensive, batch-oriented ETLs for immutable, real-time data streams we can trust from the source - in this case Apache KafkaⓇ. So let’s unpack “Shift Left,” hitting these points along the way:
Why legacy data pipelines drain - money, time, and talent (pizza, donuts, coffee, etc…).
How the immutable data stream - the Kafka topic - is a better source than legacy ETL.
Why “governance” doesn’t have to be a dirty word to engineers.
Data without schema is not a world I wanna live in, but we need to manage and evolve them.
How to identify early candidates to “Shift Left” in your data domain.
When we part ways, you’ll have the tools and inspiration to start designing and building high quality data products for your organization.
Senior Developer Advocate - Confluent
A microservices architecture is preferable to a monolith if you wish to expedite software delivery with a large workforce. To begin this, the majority switch to sync (API) calls. As the systems scale, they tend to move to async patterns. I attempt to concentrate on the challenges and best practices involved in creating and managing streaming apps in this session.
We start with ""Hybrid event-driven architectures,"" which integrate async with synchronization. In order to handle the ""lost ownership"" scenario, I then go into data loss and reconciliation with upstream systems.
Later I cover scalability, which is a multifaceted topic. How does it affect our databases? What to look for in an analytical database or a NoSQL database?
The other areas I will cover are multi-tenant systems, cost and code optimizations which help to reduce the learning curve for the engineers, as they migrate their systems from single-machine batch process, to a more complex distributed streaming system
Staff Software Engineer - Wallmart
If you’re using Apache Kafka to power your event-driven architecture, you’ve likely encountered its limitations—native client complexity, tight coupling between producers and consumers, and challenges with multi-protocol communication, especially when scaling across diverse applications and teams.
This session will explore the missing piece in your architecture: the **event gateway**. Acting as a proxy, an event gateway simplifies and secures Kafka interactions while addressing key architectural gaps like fine-grained access control, protocol translation, and API management. You’ll gain insights into the current landscape of open source event gateway implementations, their capabilities, trade-offs, and how they complement Kafka in modern event-driven systems. Whether managing microservices, IoT devices, or hybrid cloud environments, you’ll learn how an event gateway can bridge Kafka’s limitations, streamline event flow, and enhance the developer experience. To maximize its effectiveness, we'll also discuss why pairing the event gateway with a comprehensive API management strategy is essential for end-to-end governance and control.

This session dives into key strategies for securing APIs, exploring OAuth patterns for robust authentication and authorization, and leveraging threat modeling to proactively identify vulnerabilities. We’ll also discuss how generative AI is revolutionizing API security—enhancing threat detection, automating security assessments, and strengthening defenses against evolving cyber threats. Join us to uncover cutting-edge best practices and innovations that will help you stay ahead in the API security landscape.

Servers are expensive. Servers with GPUs are even more expensive. AI agents rely on servers with GPUs. If you don’t have control over what is happening at different parts of the stack, then things can change out from under you and your AI agent can change drastically without warning. Read: your AI chatbot friend can get massively depressed out of nowhere!
In this talk, I’ll cover all of the parts involved in a production-grade AI agent workload and how and where you can and should get control of them. This will cover the overall stack you’ll end up using, model management and the risks of models changing, cost-time tradeoffs and how to make educated decisions about them, as well as stories of my misadventures when things went wrong. The audience will leave this talk with practical strategies for maintaining control over their AI agent’s behavior and for controlling costs.

If a machine learning model is only on a data scientist's desktop, it can't provide business value. It needs to be deployed to make an impact. We'll review some options for deploying machine learning models, and see a demo of deploying a model using the ONNX framework and FastAPI.

In 2019, Anthony Alaribe led a legacy service rewrite at Delivery Hero that turned out poorly. An engineering incident caused almost $2 million worth of orders to be lost due to a single missing field that no one knew about.
After that experience, Anthony spent time thinking about these classes of bugs and why they’re so difficult to detect automatically. This talk explores an approach for analyzing logs and request payloads to catch and track breaking changes and various incidents in software, using simple tools from cryptography and LLMs to automatically catch issues which were previously impossible to catch. This talk is a retrospective and a code dive, exploring the intuition of how such a system can be built.

GenAI is about to alter how we consume and contribute to API documentation. Instead of requiring users to enter a predefined environment, GenAI will allow them to interact with software in their own workflows, through natural language, automation, and custom integrations.
That means that the role of developer portals is about to evolve again. From places where you consume documentation, into places where you store and structure documentation. Documentation that is then exposed as a tool inside other contexts.
In this session I will explain how software can function as a tool, a space, or something in between. And how developer portals might be spaces for some people, and tools for others.
Finally I will also explore how I think that developer portals are about to climb up the value chain, and what that means for what we call them.

As enterprises increasingly integrate AI into their workflows, selecting the optimal large language model (LLM) for a given task becomes a critical challenge. Different vendors provide models optimized for speed, accuracy, cost, and domain expertise, making a one-size-fits-all approach inefficient. This session explores the concept of model-based routing—a dynamic strategy for managing AI APIs across multiple LLM providers.
Also will discuss key considerations for inter-LLM vendor routing, including performance benchmarking, latency-aware selection, cost optimization, and fallback mechanisms. Attendees will gain insights into aspects of an intelligent AI API gateway that routes requests to the best-fit model in real time based on context, user requirements, and system constraints. This will also cover practical implementation strategies, and case studies demonstrating how organizations can maximize AI efficiency while maintaining flexibility and cost control.
