In 2021, I decided to focus full-time on this dual issue with a balanced approach. Putting on hold executive positions, I now help teams build greener digital products, using this much needed change as a strategic opportunity for sustainable business development.
I do so by:
- providing open-source content,
- building bridges between communities & networks
- and by leveraging collective intelligence;
based on 3 core values: respect People 🫂 , respect Science 🔬 and respect Earth 🌍.I’m always thrilled to interview doers for knowledge and feedback in the Green IO Podcast and to partner with companies looking to travel further on the Digital Sustainability road.

Agentic AI is powerful and transformative in its ability to solve complex problems at unprecedented speeds, but it only works if it’s connected. Without seamless access to data, applications, and automation, it’s just a high-tech paperweight. APIs are the key, enabling AI to act, integrate, and deliver tangible business outcomes. But APIs alone aren’t enough.
Join Boomi Field CTO, Markus Mueller, to learn how a unified platform like the Boomi Enterprise Platform—combining integration, automation, API management, and AI management—eliminates silos, ensures governance, and powers AI-driven success.
Attend this session to discover:
Why APIs are essential for AI-driven automation and decision-making
How fragmented architectures or a patchwork approach significantly limit AI’s potential
Why a unified platform accelerates AI innovation, ensuring scalability and governance
Don't miss the chance to revolutionize your industry and lead your agentic AI strategy with confidence!

Inclusion will be the next growth engine for Asian banks and insurers. SME lending, micro loans and insurance holds the "locked potential" for the Asian FS industry. Inclusion would also necessitate low cost solutions to help reduce cost to serve, and to create a wider reach. That is where a microservices led architecture could make a significant impact. On the second topic, there is an increasing ask for financial crime data sharing among FS to help combat fraud. My view is that this needs to be an entire ecosystem approach including telecom and would love to discuss architecting a system, why it is needed, and how it can benefit the banks and the society

The concept of productizing APIs via federated API gateways centres around the idea of decentralizing policy enforcement and management duties by distributing them among multiple gateways, thereby effectively treating APIs as standalone products. This innovative approach brings several advantages, including enhanced scalability, as it allows systems to handle an increased load by distributing requests across several nodes; and improved resilience, owing to the distributed nature which ensures that the failure of one node does not compromise the entire system.

Kuba will present a case study on replatforming a complex, disjointed ecosystem into a unified, API-first platform, enhanced by AI tools to boost productivity and improve our product offering. The talk will cover the business and technical factors that influenced decision-making, the roadblocks encountered along the way, and where we are right now on our journey, highlighting the importance of technical and cultural resilience.
Participants may relate to how we found ourselves in such a situation (the "It's not just me!" awareness everyone needs from time to time) and should feel encouraged by the idea that, when it comes to software products, if you've built the right team, setbacks can be overcome with creativity, no matter how unlikely it seems at the start.
We'll share various technical solutions, "hacks", and tips, measured against the outcomes we achieved, whether they were successes, failures, or somewhere in between. What's more, despite the hype and the fact that its full potential has yet to be realized, we'll reflect on the real benefits of the ongoing AI (r)evolution.

As AI reshapes the technology landscape, its environmental cost cannot be ignored. With compute demands growing 4-5x annually, AI’s carbon footprint is poised to double data center emissions by 2030. In this keynote, we’ll explore the dual role of AI as a challenge and opportunity for sustainability. Discover how industry innovations—from energy-efficient hardware to software optimizations—are reducing AI’s energy footprint. More importantly, learn how developers can design smarter, simpler systems, integrate energy observability into their pipelines and turn AI into a force for sustainability without compromising progress.

If we can make software energy-aware, we’ll unlock higher levels of datacenter energy efficiency. However, much of today’s software isn’t energy-aware. In the best of circumstances, it is cost-aware – in the worst, not even that. Using cost as a proxy for carbon emissions has its pitfalls. Conversely, making existing software energy-aware has an engineering cost. In this talk, we’ll discuss why energy is a better proxy for carbon emissions. We’ll also discuss two techniques that can help strike a balance between energy awareness and engineering cost – particularly for enterprise applications.

With sustainability higher on the tech agenda for a few years now, a number of studies have been published over time showing that carbon footprint on the cloud may be significantly better than managing resources on-prem for most companies. At the same time, it is estimated that, globally, the Carbon footprint of Digital and Cloud has surpassed the aviation footprint. So where’s the truth?
In 2022 and 2023, Accor achieved a massive cloud migration of 45 regional on prem datacenters and server rooms across the world. The teams took that opportunity to assess at the same time the Carbon footprint evolution in this before / after cloud migration context. In his talk, Khang will take you through the sustainability learnings of this major migration program, as well as the considerations Accor has been taking towards Green IT as part of its journey to the Cloud.

Much of the focus in Green IO is understandably on measuring, reducing, and eliminating the carbon and water footprints of digital technology. Today, especially AI is accused of accelerating climate change. Yet, as renewable energy skyrockets, green digital technology is evolving into something totally different. By 2030, the primary role of green digital technology will be to boost customer loyalty and business growth through the restoration of nature. Handprint.tech was founded in 2020 with a vision to create the first universal impact API and enable this. Let’s peek under the hood together.

For thousands of years, those calling the shots have exploited our lack of literacy in measurement to tip the scales to their advantage. Now, in a digital age where the boundary of “software” is almost impossible to pin down, it’s easier than ever for that advantage to grow. It's time to fight back, but not with placards and posters, with spreadsheets and standards.
In this talk, I’ll walk you through the surprising ways measurement has historically been used to seize and sometimes reclaim power. We’ll fast-forward to today’s sustainability battlefield, where the **Software Carbon Intensity (SCI)** specification from the Green Software Foundation represents a democratic, consensus-based standard to measure software’s environmental impact. I’ll show you how to calculate SCI for your own software, using the open-source **Impact Framework**. Along the way, we’ll also discuss the rise of a new kind of activist—the “watchers”—who use transparent metrics and tooling to keep the system honest.
By the end, you’ll understand why measurement matters, how to keep tabs on your software’s carbon footprint, and how to become part of this growing movement. It’s time to tip the scales back in our favor—one calculation at a time.
